a one-day seminar on “Agri-Commodity
Futures in India: Impact on Production and
Prices” on September 28, 2007, at Seminar
Hall, Third Floor, Department of Economics,
Justice M.G. Ranade Bhavan, Kalina Campus,
University of Mumbai.
The seminar was attended by academicians,
corporate houses, commodity market traders,
and policymakers. Apart from renowned academicians,
the paper contributors included experts from
commercial banks, and representatives from
the RBI and NABARD. The seminar aimed to
fulfil the long-felt need for a forum for
deliberation to a diverse group of stakeholders
of the agri-commodity ecosystem. The seminar
also helped make objective assessments of
the functioning of futures markets in agri-commodities
and suggested policies and strategies for
the growth of futures markets. |
